FALKEN to Sponsor 2017 DFL-Supercup as an Official Partner

August 3, 2017

Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring the 2017 DFL-Supercup, which will be held this coming Saturday, August 5 in Dortmund, Germany. This is our second year of sponsoring the DFL-Supercup through our FALKEN brand as an official partner of the Deutsche Fussball Liga (German Soccer League).

Our latest sponsorship agreement covers the 2017 DFL-Supercup, which will be held in Dortmund, Germany on Saturday, August 5, two weeks before the start of the 55th season of 1 Bundesliga*1. This year's DFL-Supercup match will pit Borussia Dortmund, the winners of this year's DFB-Pokal (German Cup) tournament*2, against FC Bayern Munich, last season's Bundesliga league champions.

This sponsorship agreement gives us exclusive rights (in the tire category) to display the FALKEN logo on stadium signage and player interview boards, to refer to FALKEN as an "Official Partner of the 2017 DFL-Supercup" and to conduct various other promotional activities throughout the stadium.

Stephan Cimbal, the head of marketing at the Sumitomo Rubber Group's European sales subsidiary, FALKEN Tyre Europe GmbH, has said of last year's sponsorship, "I got a strong sense of the enormous influence of the DFL-Supercup. We plan to continue accelerating the pace of our expansion in key markets through marketing activities that take advantage of the popularity of European soccer."

In addition to sponsoring this year's DFL-Supercup, we are also proud to sponsor Liverpool FC in the English Premier League and FC Ingolstadt 04 in the Bundesliga as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the value of the FALKEN brand.

*1Bundesliga is Germany's premier professional soccer league.
*2Sponsored by the Deutscher Fussball-Bund (German Football Association), the DFB-Pokal (commonly known as the German Cup) is an annual tournament in which a total of 64 teams-from amateur football clubs to professional Bundesliga teams-compete. The winner of the DFP-Pokal not only earns the right to compete in the DFL-Supercup, but also qualifies to play in the EUFA Europa League during the following season. Pokal is German for "Victory Cup."
