August 7, 2018

Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce that our group's South Africa Factory (Location: Ladysmith, South Africa) began producing tires for trucks and buses this past July 19. With the aim of ensuring a stable supply of truck and bus tires for markets throughout Africa, SRI invested a total of 970 Million Rand (approximately 8.1 Billion Yen*1) to install new, cutting-edge production facilities at our South Africa Factory.

Until now, Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Limited (SRSA) relied on imports to supply African markets with truck and bus tires. Now, with the start of local production of truck and bus tires, we have gained the ability to ensure a stable supply for Africa. Moving forward, the SRI Group will continue working to enhance our tire sales business in Africa as part of our efforts to further grow and develop our overall global business.
