Sumitomo Rubber Joins Japan Hydrogen Association

Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd.  is pleased to announce that we have joined the Japan Hydrogen Association, an organization that promotes global cooperation throughout the hydrogen industry as well as the formation of reliable supply chains for hydrogen.

Founded with the aim of hastening the arrival of the Hydrogen Economy by means of carrying out various social implementation projects, the Japan Hydrogen Association is an open-participation organization whose members represent a wide range of industries, which gives the association a comprehensive overview of supply chains.

Sumitomo Rubber Industries is working to achieve carbon neutrality (i.e. zero net CO2 emissions) in our tire manufacturing processes by the year 2050. As part of these efforts, we have recently begun examining the possibility of utilizing hydrogen energy, which is widely viewed as the energy source of the future, at our major tire factories in Japan. And so, we applied to join the Japan Hydrogen Association so that we could participate more actively in efforts to overcome the challenges involved in bringing about the Hydrogen Economy while also exchanging useful information with other companies and organizations. We are pleased to report that our membership application was approved this past February 12, 2021.

Now as a member of the Japan Hydrogen Association, Sumitomo Rubber Industries will continue working together with various stakeholders in the interests of further developing and expanding the Hydrogen Economy for the future.
