Sumitomo Rubber Awarded Top Rating in CDP Supplier Engagement Assessment

Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as a 2024 Supplier Engagement Leader by global environmental non-profit organization CDP. We have received the highest rating in the CDP Supplier Engagement Assessment for its proactive initiatives to address climate change-related issues in its supply chain.
The Supplier Engagement Assessment evaluates companies’ activities based on questions in five categories of the CDP Climate Change Questionnaire, namely “Supplier Engagement,” “Scope 3*1 Emissions,” “Risk Management Processes,” “Governance and Business Strategy,” and “Targets,” with a particular focus on “Supplier Engagement.”
■ Our key initiatives to address climate change
Sumitomo Rubber is advancing the initiatives defined in its long-term sustainability policy, Driving Our Future Challenge 2050, to achieve its SBT-validated*2 targets for 2030.As part of its Scope 3 Emission reduction targets, Sumitomo Rubber aims to reduce emissions by 25% in Category 1 (Purchased goods and services)*3 and by 10% in Category 4 (Upstream transportation and distribution)*4 by 2030, compared to 2021 base year.
To achieve these targets, we are working to enhance engagement with our suppliers. As part of this effort, to help them gain knowledge on sustainability and support their understanding of our climate initiatives, we hold briefing sessions on our Procurement Guidelines and ask for their cooperation in calculating and providing primary data*5, among other collaborative efforts to address challenges we are facing.
Sumitomo Rubber will continue working on identifying sustainability challenges across the entire supply chain and pursue initiatives to address them.
